Israeli, Lebanese Army Officers Meet with UNIFIL Commander to Discuss Israeli Pullout and Lebanese Army Deployment
The commander of the UN force in Lebanon held a joint meeting with Lebanese and Israeli army officers Monday to discuss the Israeli pullout from south Lebanon and the Lebanese army deployment in the area, a UN spokesman said.
"UNIFIL Commander General Alain Pellegrini has met with the senior representatives of the Lebanese army and Israeli army at noon today (0900 GMT)," UN spokesman Milos Strugar said in a statement.

"They... discussed the withdrawal of the Israeli army and the deployment of the Lebanese armed forces in south Lebanon," he said.

They also discussed "the implementation of and compliance with the agreement" of the ceasefire deal brokered by the United Nations and which stopped hostilities at 0500 GMT on Monday, he said.

The deal is in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, unanimously adopted Friday, and which calls for a full cessation of hostilities, the deployment of Lebanese and UN forces in south Lebanon and a simultaneous Israeli troop withdrawal from the area.(AFP)
