Israel Worried About Syria Providing Hizbullah with Advanced Missiles
A report issued by the Tel Aviv-based Institute for National Security Studies said Israel's latest wars against Lebanon and Gaza contributed in boosting the level of purchasing new types of projectiles, the thing that led to a race to arms in the international market.
According to the report, prepared by the head of "Military Balance in Mideast" project Yiftah Chavez, the lessons of the two wars are clear in this regard. "On one side, countries such as Iran and Syria decided to increase their stocks of missiles, whereas their rivals need became on the rise to develop defense systems that repel short-range projectiles."
The report describes Israel's anxiousness over Syria providing Hizbullah of advanced missiles. It adds that Damascus has increased its caches of land-land missiles with the help of Iran.
It also added that the Syrians have learned from Hizbullah to build their security upon fortifying their ability to threaten Israel's civilians with massive barrages of missiles and to obtain advanced heavy anti-tank missiles to make Israel endure massive losses in case of any land offensive.
