During the visit, the first ever by Aoun to Tehran, a ceremony will be held in his honor, the daily As Safir said Friday.

It said Aoun is expected to stay "several days" in Tehran.

Meanwhile, cabinet minister Mario Aoun confirmed obtaining information about "plots targeting a high-ranking opposition figure."

The minister called on security forces to bear responsibility for "protecting opposition personalities, particularly Gen. Aoun."
