Chirac Urges Syria to 'Fully Cooperate' with U.N. on Hariri's Murder
President Chirac has renewed his call for Syria to show "full and complete cooperation" with the U.N. inquiry into Rafik Hariri's assassination in a meeting in Paris with Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jasim al-Thani.
Officials in Chirac's office said the two men held talks for 45 minutes, half of which in private, at the Elysee palace on Friday. Chirac's remarks were trumpeted by the Beirut media on Saturday.

The Qatari minister, for his part, said Damascus was prepared to assist the U.N. investigation in line with U.N. Security Council Resolution 1636, which was sponsored by France, Britain and the United States early in the week.

"According to what President Assad told me, they are ready to give positive and total cooperation," the Qatari minister told newsmen after the Elysee talks.

Referring to the threats of sanctions suggested but not formalized in the resolution, the minister said: "We have always believed that the region cannot afford new problems and new conflicts."(AFP-Naharnet)
