Gemayel: Jumblat-Hizbullah Dialogue Established Stability

Phalange Party leader former president Amin Gemayel said that the plan of Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat to withdraw from March 14 forces preceded the incidents of May 7, adding that Jumblat's dialogue with Hizbullah "established security, stability, and reconciliation."
In an interview with Al-Massira weekly published on Saturday, Gemayel considered that the national dialogue table did not fulfill till this moment its awaited results and said that bilateral meetings are better than general dialogue. He hoped to witness more of that form of bilateral dialogue hinting at the existence of a new idea for the dialogue table mechanism.

Gemayel expressed his belief that the ministerial Policy Statement would be concluded through "words manipulation and walking between the lines."

Answering a question, Gemayel denied that Phalange Party decision was to withdraw from March 14, and stressed that his party would not renounce its principles. However, Gemayel reiterated Phalange's reservation over the "coordination frame of March 14."

Gemayel called for starting a serious dialogue with Syria in order to establish normal relations between the two countries, adding that what matters is fortifying diplomatic relations and border demarcation.

"Hizbullah does not hide its attachment to the Faqih Rule nor its public declaration that Iran was supplying it with arms, equipment, and funding," answered Gemayel to a question on whether Hizbullah's decision was independent from Iran.

Gemayel stressed that Lebanon is suffering from "the impossibility of coexistence between two states and two armies on one land", adding that it was necessary to reach agreements with Hizbullah in the future.
