Hariri Discusses with Committees Work Plan to Demarcate Border, Tackle Issue of Missing
Prime Minister Saad Hariri has launched efforts to implement the working plans of agreements reached with Syrian President Bashar Assad during his historic visit to Damascus earlier this month.
The premier headed the meeting of the Lebanese delegation on the demarcation of the border with Syria.
The conferees came up with a work plan and decided to initiate a study on the common border. The Lebanese delegation is now waiting for Syria to form its own team in order for the two sides to work based on a common plan.
Hariri also headed on Tuesday the meeting of the committee on missing Lebanese.
Governmental sources told pan-Arab daily al-Hayat that Hariri dedicated himself in the past week to study several issues that he intends to launch discussions on at the end of the holidays.
The sources also did not rule out an attempt by Hariri to discuss the issue of municipal elections during the cabinet session early next year. Hariri is keen on holding the polls in May after some politicians suggested their postponement.
The prime minister is also planning to carry out visits to foreign countries, al-Hayat's sources said. An Nahar newspaper reported that Hariri intends to visit Paris on January 21 for the first time as premier.
Hariri also met with President Michel Suleiman at Baabda Palace on Tuesday night. The premier extending his greetings to the head of state and the two men discussed several issues that will be dealt with during the next cabinet session.
