Miqati Travels to Italy, Says March 14 Wants to Paralyze him to Regain Power

Premier Najib Miqati has criticized the “pointless” March 14-led opposition campaigns against him, saying they are only aimed at “preventing him from finding effective solutions to the major problems that the country is suffering from.”

Miqati traveled with his family to Italy on Friday and is expected to return from his vacation on Tuesday, al-Liwaa newspaper said.

His visitors told As Safir daily published Saturday that Miqati complained to them about attempts by the March 14 forces “to paralyze him and paralyze the cabinet to achieve their political gains and return to power.”

“They want me to enter into a daily dispute with them. I won’t do it … I know that they won’t leave me alone but I won’t answer,” the premier told his visitors.

His sources told al-Liwaa that he has put all opposition campaigns behind him and announced that the government would be for all the Lebanese.

Miqati’s sources also told al-Joumhouria newspaper that the cabinet needs between six to 12 months to show the positive outcome of its work.

“There is a real intention to introduce reform,” they said.
