Salam at Hospital for Stomach Virus

Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam was admitted to the American University of Beirut Medical Center after falling ill on Sunday afternoon.

"It was revealed that Salam was suffering from a stomach virus,” the state-run National News Agency said.

Radio Voice of Lebanon (100.5) remarked that Salam had fainted when he was offering condolences at a residence in the Beirut neighborhood of Verdun, which required transferring him to a hospital.

Meanwhile, radio Voice of Lebanon (93.3) noted that the premier-designate is in a stable condition.

The NNA later added that caretaker PM Najib Miqati and ex-premier Fouad Sanioura visited Salam at the AUBMC to check-up on his condition.

"Salam also received phones calls from President Michel Suleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri, former Speaker Hussein al-Husseini, al-Mustaqbal party head Saad Hariri and other political personalities,” the same source noted.

Salam has been trying since April to come up with a line-up but several conditions set by the rival parties have brought his task to a stalemate.
