Makari Says Lebanese Will Discover Miqati’s ‘Double Standards’

Deputy Speaker Farid Makari said that the Lebanese will find out the “double standard speeches” and “deception” that PM Najib Miqati adopted, stressing that the coup that happened will automatically fall when the uprising in Syria succeeds.

In an interview with the Kuwaiti newspaper al-Rai to be published on Sunday, Makari stressed that “the contradictory principles between PM Miqati and his cabinet members will create several confrontations among the new majority especially with Hizbullah and Michel Aoun’s team.”

He was quoted as saying that “the March 14 forces announced that they will not surrender to the toppling of Saad Hariri’s cabinet. They chose the institutions to carry out their aim including all the democratic means allowed by law.”

Concerning PSP leader MP Walid Jumblat’s remarks that he supports the “justice of destiny” in ex-Premier Rafik Hariri’s assassination case, Makari said that “his statements express his real convictions regarding what happened in the past and what he wishes to happen in the future.

The deputy speaker noted that “Hizbullah is buying Miqati time concerning the STL issue.”

Asked about the possibility that this cabinet might last until the 2013 parliamentary elections, Makari said that “the new majority has set its aim on this issue… However, it will not be able to last until then.”

Regarding the issue of false witnesses that Miqati re-opened during an interview with CNN, the newspaper quoted him as saying that “if the premier or the other parties in power think that this kind of bargain is going to work, then they are wrong and deluded.”

“Using this issue (false witnesses) in election campaigns is possible. It’s well known that this issue is useless, and the opposition-back then created it,” the deputy speaker said.

Makari accused President Michel Suleiman of taking and implementing decisions against the March 14-led opposition without obliging the March 8 forces with them.

Answering a question about the national dialogue table, he said that “we are not ready to participate in the dialogue without being convinced that the conferees will come up with practical results.”
