Slovenian Inflation Drops in December

Slovenian 12-month inflation dropped in December to 0.7 percent from 1.3 percent in November pulled down by seasonal discounts, official data showed Monday.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices also fell by 0.9 percent from November, after dropping by 0.1 percent from the previous month, the statistics office said.

This owed mainly to December's seasonal discounts of clothes and footwear, it added.

Using the harmonised index of consumer prices, the European Central Bank's yardstick, 12-month inflation in December fell to 0.9 percent from 1.2 percent in November.

The European Commission has forecast that crisis-hit Slovenia will be the only eurozone country along with Cyprus to remain in recession in 2014.

In the third quarter of this year, the small country, once a model EU and eurozone newcomer, saw zero growth for the first time after two years of recession.
