Four Syrian Immigrants Die in Boat Sinking Off Turkey

Four people drowned on Tuesday after a boat carrying eight Syrian immigrants trying to reach Greece capsized off western Turkey, local media reported.

Three survivors were rescued and taken to a hospital in the Turkish tourist town of Bodrum, while one person remained missing after the accident in the Aegean Sea, Dogan news agency said.

The incident came hours after seven migrants including two children died after their boat sank off the Greek island of Lesbos.

Turkey, which hosts about 750,000 Syrians who have fled the civil war in their country, has become a hub for illegal immigrants who aspire to reach Europe and Greece is one of the main ports of entry.

But the journey across the Mediterranean is perilous and hundreds of immigrants drown each year en route for Europe.
