Army Arrests 4 at Eid's Akkar Home, ex-MP Whereabouts Still Unknown
The army raided on Tuesday the house of Arab Democratic Party leader Ali Eid in the northern region of Akkar, as troops began implementing a security plan adopted by the cabinet in several areas in the North.
"An army force raided the house of former MP Eid in the border town of Hikr al-Daheri,” the state-run National News Agency reported
The NNA said four people were arrested at Eid's residence, while the latter “was not found.”
Media reports on Saturday said Ali Eid left Lebanon to Syria, accompanied by his son, the party's politburo chief Rifaat Eid.
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr last week ordered convicting 21 people in the case of the double blast that targeted two mosques in the northern city of Tripoli last summer.
Among the suspects were Ali Eid and the head of the pro-Syria Islamic Tawhid Movement-Command Council, Sheikh Hashem Minkara.
And on February 24, First Military Investigative Judge Riyad Abou Ghida issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Ali Eid.
The warrant was based on the content of the lawsuit that was filed against him by the military prosecution in connection with the alleged smuggling of suspects wanted over Tripoli's twin bombings.
On August 23, 2013, two car bombs exploded outside the al-Taqwa and al-Salam mosques in Tripoli, leaving 45 people dead and more than 800 injured according to an unofficial toll.
