Two Internal Security Forces members were hurt Monday in a raid that involved the arrest of Hussein Ismail, a top leader of a car theft gang in the Bekaa, while another fugitive was killed in the town of Hourtaala.

The ISF, which announced Ismail's arrest via Twitter, said two of its members were wounded in the shootout that accompanied the operation that took place at al-Taybeh region in the Bekaa.

Separately, state-run National News Agency said "the fugitive Bilal Mohammed al-Masri was killed in (Bekaa's) Hourtaala during a clash with an ISF Intelligence Bureau patrol that was chasing him."

An army soldier who was passing in the area was accidentally wounded in the shooting, NNA said.

Earlier on Monday, the army arrested a number of Syrians in the Bekaa region of Arsal for illegally entering Lebanon, according to the agency.

It said that 12 Syrians, including gunmen, were arrested at checkpoints on the outskirts of Arsal.

The gunmen were armed with hand grenades and had in their possession fake identification cards.

They have since been referred to the military police for investigation.

Also on Monday, an ISF patrol came under fire in al-Jouban region in Arsal as it was trying to confiscate a stolen SUV.

The patrol came under fire from gunmen, but none of its members were harmed. The security forces later seized the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the army failed in arresting a wanted suspect in the Bekaa's Dar al-Wasiaa and al-Yammouneh areas, NNA said.

It said that Hussein Abed Ali Jaafar managed to escape arrest during a chase in the region.

A shootout ensued, prompting Jaafar to flee from his vehicle. He was soon chased in the outskirts of al-Sindyan area.
