Man Gored to Death in Spanish Bull Run

A man was killed after being gored by a bull known to be dangerous during a bull run in an arena in Xativa, eastern Spain, local authorities said Sunday.

The bull, nicknamed "Mouse", ran at the man, who has not been named but is said to be around 30, during the run on Saturday night.

The man was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Spanish press reported the bull weighed half a ton and has a reputation for being dangerous after previously killing two other people.

Witnesses quoted by the media said the man had been drinking and did not seem in a fit state to approach the bulls.

Organizers tried unsuccessfully to dissuade him from going near the bulls.

Images circulating on the Internet show "Mouse" run at his victim and spear him. The man is seen trying to stand up but collapses, unconscious, on the ground before being dragged outside of the arena.

A notoriously dangerous practice, bull runs involve a number of bulls being set loose on a particular route or in an arena. People run at the animals to see how close they can get without getting hurt.

The most famous bull run takes place in July in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona but numerous bull runs are organized around the country.

On August 2, a 74-year-old man became the third victim to bulls in 10 days after he was gored in another bull run in the small town of Lodosa, in northern Spain.
