Abu Ghida Issues Indictment in Tripoli Mosque Blasts

First Military Examining Magistrate Judge Abu Ghida issued on Monday the indictment in double mosque bombings in the northern city of Tripoli last year, asking for the death penalty against 11 suspects, including four detainees.

Among them are Ahmed Hassan al-Gharib, Sheikh Hayyan Ramadan, Youssef Diab, Khodr Shdoud, Ahmed Merhi and Selman Assaad.

He referred them to the permanent military court along with several other suspects, including Syrians Mohammed Ali, Nasser Jouban and Khodr Lotfi al-Ayrouni, who were accused of plotting the bombings.

Former MP and Arab Democratic Party leader Ali Eid was also referred to trial for smuggling Merhi, one of the perpetrators of the bombings.

He is allegedly the driver of the explosive-laden vehicle that blew up near al-Taqwa mosque. The other car that blew up near al-Salam mosque was driven by Diab.

Abu Ghida rejected the trial of the head of the pro-Syria Islamic Tawhid Movement-Command Council, Sheikh Hashem Minkara for lack of evidence against him.

In March, State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr ordered the conviction of 21 people in the case of the car bombings that left 45 people dead.

Among the convicted were Eid and Minkara.
