RHUH Employees Demand Solution to Delayed Payrolls

Employees at the government-run Rafick Hariri University Hospital were up in arms on Monday about the delay in receiving their salaries for the months of March and April, the state-run National News Agency reported.

“The month of May is about to end, and so far we have not yet received our salaries for the months of March and April,” the employees and contract workers at the hospital said in a statement.

“We will not bear the responsibility of the deterioration in the financial and administrative conditions at the hospital. The employees are tired of the constant promises that the problem related to our wages will be solved,” the statement added.

The employees warned of the consequences of not finding radical and quick solutions for the hospital's conditions in order to ensure its sustainability and stability.

Recent media reports emerged about corruption and shortage in medical supplies, in addition to the incapability of the hospital to receive patients.

Minister of Health Wael Abou Faour stated last month that RHUH faces the threat of closure if the state did not take the necessary measure.

Head of the board of directors at the hospital Wassim al-Wazzan submitted his resignation in April to the Health Minister.
