Army Ups Security after Obtaining Terrorist Plots Reports

The army boosted its security measures after obtaining information of a terrorist act planned by a group linked to Sheikh Sirajeddine Zuraiqat, the religious guide of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.

According to As Safir newspaper published on Friday, Zuraiqat is currently in Syria in an area close to the border with Lebanon.

A security source revealed in comments to the daily that a suspect with valuable information concerning plots to target Lebanon with terrorist acts was apprehended recently.

The source also said that western intelligence information warned of the possibility of targeting health facilities in Beirut's southern suburbs and other areas across Lebanon or plots to assassinate a prominent Lebanese figure.

Security forces, according to the source, are focusing on controlling the security situation in Palestinian refugee camps, Syrian refugee encampments and the Lebanese-Syrian border.

The stable security situation in Lebanon was marred on Monday after media reports said the army discovered a tunnel in one of the Palestinian refugee camps reaching out of it.

Hizbullah, according to reports, obtained news that a terrorist group is seeking to attack two hospitals in Dahiyeh, a Hizbullah stronghold.

The party obtained information that a “terrorist group will attack al-Rasoul al-Aazam and Behman hospitals with explosions.”

The bombing threats come in light of the violence in Iraq as Sunni Muslim insurgents captured large swaths of territory collaring Baghdad, the capital.
