Woman Ends Up at Hospital Following Husband's Violence

A new case of domestic violence has been recorded in Lebanon as Fatima Ayyash, a northern citizen, was transferred to a hospital after she had been brutally beaten up by her husband.

The victim shared her story with radio Voice of Lebanon (93.3) on Wednesday: “I am seven months pregnant and this was not the first time I had been beaten up by my husband.”

She described what happened to her in the latest assault: “He threw a metallic window frame at me which resulted in a nasal fracture and severe wounds all over my body.”

Ayyash was transferred to Akkar's al-Youssef hospital in the North for treatment.

Several Lebanese women have recently ended up under the spotlight following brutal attacks by their husbands or close family members.

In a recent similar case of domestic assault, a young man killed his sister in the southern town of Bfarweh in June after discovering an SMS message in her telephone that indicates she had committed a “dishonorable act.”

Women suffering domestic in Lebanon abuse often fail to report it for fear of public criticism, and police have been known to tell victims of spousal assault to return to their husbands.
