Syrian Released after Kidnappers Lure him to Wadi Khaled

A Syrian national, 34, was freed after a kidnapping ordeal as police apprehended the kingpin of an abduction ring, Internal Security Forces commander in Tripoli General Bassam al-Ayoubi announced on Monday.

Ayoubi said in a press conference that Syrian national Mohammed Shattat, who owns a chocolate and packaged candies factory in the northern city of Tripoli, was freed due to the efforts exerted by the police in the north.

The General pointed out that kidnappers lured Shattat to the Akkar border area of Wadi Khaled, claiming that they want to sign a deal with him.

The abductors demanded the payment of ransom through a currency exchange firm in return for Shattat's release.

“After we thoroughly monitored surveillance cameras, the vehicle used in the abduction was identified,” Ayoubi said, revealing that the car was rented, which led them to the kidnappers.

“We released him (Shattat) and detained the network's kingpin, who has several arrest warrants against him.”

Ayoubi called on the gang members to surrender.

A communique issued later by the ISF said that Shattat was shot and tortured.

The statement identified the gang's 28-year-old kingpin by his initials A. Kh.
