Ex-MP Hbous in Critical Condition after Accidentally Shooting Self
Former Tripoli MP Ahmed Hbous is in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself.
Hbous, a Alawite, was handling his gun when the bullet struck his face.
The ex-lawmaker was rushed to Albert Haykal Hospital in the northern district of Koura, where he underwent surgery.
According to LBCI television, the bullet traveled from his eye and then lodged in his head.
The National News Agency denied reports of his death, saying that he was undergoing surgery and was in critical condition.
Head of police in the northern city of Tripoli Bassam al-Ayyoubi, who was present at Albert Haykal Hospital, also denied the reports of his death.
The hospital administration later stated that Hbous was being held at its intensive care unit where he is in “very critical” condition.
Hbous was elected to parliament in 1996, representing the Alawite seat in Tripoli.
