Judge Issues Arrest Warrants against Six Suspects for ISIL, Nusra Front Links

Military Examining Magistrate Fadi Sawan interrogated on Friday six suspects charged with belonging to the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant and al-Nusra Front.

According to the state-run National News Agency, the six men carry Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian nationalities.

The suspects were charged with having links to ISIL and al-Nusra and attempts to carry out terrorist acts across Lebanese territories.

Sawan issued arrested warrants against them that could lead to the death penalty if convicted.

Recently, the army stepped up its security measures, apprehending several gunmen accused of belonging to armed groups.

Lebanon has become the scene of several deadly bombings since the eruption of the Syrian civil war, many of which have targeted Hizbullah strongholds in the Bekaa and in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The blasts, which have taken the lives of dozens of civilians and troops, were claimed by extremist groups that are opposed to Hizbullah's involvement in Syria's war alongside President Bashar Assad's forces.

Armed men usually infiltrate Lebanon from neighboring Syria through the country's northern and Bekaa border.
