Four Arrested in N. Ireland over Letter Bombs

Two men and two women were arrested in Northern Ireland on Wednesday over a series of letter bombs sent to addresses in Northern Ireland and England, police said.

The suspects are being questioned over devices sent in February to armed forces careers offices several southern English cities.

In October last year, letter bombs were also sent to high-profile political figures in Northern Ireland, including to Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers at the seat of the power-sharing executive at Belfast's Stormont Castle.

None of the devices detonated.

Police said the four suspects, two men aged 35 and 46, and two women aged 21 and 44, were arrested in the city of Londonderry.

The 1998 Good Friday peace accords largely brought an end decades of sectarian violence in Northern Ireland, known as The Troubles, although sporadic violence and bomb threats continue.
