15 Hizbullah Fighters Killed in Syria's Fleita

Fifteen members of Hizbullah were killed in fierce battles with rebels on the outskirts of the town of Fleita in the Syrian al-Qalamoun region, the Syrian National Coalition said.

The coalition said that the rebels controlled the Syrian town of Fleita after the intensified battles with the Syrian regime troops and Hizbullah.

“15 members of Hizbullah were killed in battles with the rebels on the outskirts of Fleita,” a statement pointed out.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported that “intensified battles occurred on Thursday night between fighters from al-Nusra Front and the Islamist Brigades and Syrian troops backed by Hizbullah fighters in the rural al-Ghouta suburb.”

On August 14, Hizbullah overran the town of Mleiha, 10 kilometers (six miles) southeast of Damascus, after months of fighting.

Hizbullah is a close ally of the Syrian regime and has been fighting alongside government troops against an uprising there.

Its involvement has helped the army to recapture key territory, but drawn the ire of many in Lebanon.
