Report: Hariri to Inform Aoun about Limited Chances to Reach Baabda

Al-Mustaqbal movement leader ex-PM Saad Hariri is reportedly expected to inform Free Patriotic movement chief MP Michel Aoun that he has limited chances to reach the presidential palace in Baabda.

Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted informed officials as saying on Friday that “Hariri will personally inform Aoun” about the issue when he returns from Saudi Arabia.

The officials, who were not identified, told the daily that Hariri has sent his envoy former MP Ghattas al-Khoury to Rabieh to set the stage for the contact between him and Aoun.

The FPM chief, who heads the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, has not officially announced his candidacy for the presidency claiming there should be consensus on him first.

The members of his bloc have been boycotting along with the majority of the March 8 alliances MPs the parliamentary sessions aimed at finding a successor to President Michel Suleiman, whose term ended in May.

Meanwhile, al-Mustaqbal officials denied that the party led by Hariri and Hizbullah were preparing for talks between their top officials.

OTV reported on Thursday that there were contacts between the head of Hariri's office, Nader Hariri, and Hizbullah official Wafiq Safa.

But the Mustaqbal officials told al-Liwaa newspaper that there were no plans for high-level talks between the two parties.

The officials, who were not identified, stressed that Nader Hariri is abroad.

“At this stage, the former premier has only contacts with Speaker Nabih Berri” from the March 8 alliance, whose main members are Hizbullah, the FPM and Berri's Amal movement.

Pan-Arab daily al-Hayat said earlier this month that a meeting between Hariri and Nasrallah will not be held any time soon because of the strong differences between al-Mustaqbal and Hizbullah.
