Mars One has begun interviewing applicants for its one-way trip to the Red Planet in 2013. Two crews of four astronauts will depart every two years, starting in 2024.

The first unmanned mission will be launched in 2018.

Challengers from all around the world will be competing to be included in one of the trips to Mars with a plan to eventually establish a permanent human settlement.

In 2011 Bas Lansdorp and Arno Wielders put the foundation of the Mars One mission plan.

The crews will document their entire journey on a reality TV show. With costs reaching an estimated $6 billion in order to support the astronauts for as long as they live on Mars.
