Miqati Sources: No Party Has Authority to Boss PM around Administrative Appointments
Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government is seeking to launch a “productive workshop” to address the people’s concerns, as well as address a new batch of administrative appointments.
The premier’s sources told the daily al-Liwaa Saturday that cabinet has the right to take any decision regarding an appointment of an official or his dismissal from his post.
“A political party, no matter how powerful it is, does not have the right to give orders to Miqati over appointments,” they added.
Informed political sources told the daily that Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun is planning to go after the sides that revealed retired Brigadier General Fayez Karam’s collaboration with Israel.
Karam, a senior FPM official, was recently convicted of collaborating with the Jewish state.
He was sentenced to two years in prison with hard labor.
The sources added that Aoun will now be setting his sights on the head of the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau Wissam al-Hassan and ISF chief Ashraf Rifi, whom he blames for Karam’s conviction.
Miqati’s sources asserted that the prime minister will oppose any spiteful practices against Sunni officials, even if it led to a confrontation with his allies at cabinet.
A Mustaqbal movement source told al-Liwaa: “We can no longer remain silent over Aoun’s practices. He is nothing but a puppet in Hizbullah’s hands.”
“The movement will not stand idly by over the FPM’s spiteful practices,” he added.
Furthermore, he said that it will not allow Aoun to harm any of the individuals he is seeking to target as these individuals are blocking Hizbullah’s attempts to take control of the rest of the state.
