Zahle Prison Guards Seize Hashish in Meat Sandwiches

Security guards at Zahle prison foiled on Saturday an attempt to smuggle a quantity of hashish to an inmate in the facility, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to NNA, the hashish were hidden in meat sandwiches.

An Internal Security Forces statement said “275 grams of hashish were discovered in two carton boxes containing chops of grilled meat.”

The ISF said a 34-year-old Syrian woman tried to pass on the boxes to the prisoner.

“She was arrested and a probe got underway under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities,” the ISF added.

On August 29, the facility's security guards seized 20 grams of hashish that were packed in a halva box.

Such smuggling attempts are frequent in Lebanese prisons as visitors get creative when it comes to smuggling narcotics.

Some have hidden hashish in cucumbers, apricots, toothpaste, meat pastries, sandwiches, pistachio shells and other foods.
