Bassil to Miqati: Forgiving Errors Will Not Lead to Government’s Success

Energy Minister Jebran Bassil stated on Monday that the prime minister cannot keep on covering up state employee errors over their sectarian affiliations.

He told MTV: “We have an opportunity to achieve issues we had never done before, but forgiving mistakes will not lead to the government’s success.”

Premier Najib Miqati’s sources told al-Liwaa daily in remarks published on Tuesday that the premier will not respond to criticism directed against him, adding that he does not want to get embroiled in a debate with Bassil.

Miqati had held talks Monday night with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on the latest developments in Syria, the governmental situation in Lebanon, and the adoption of proportional representation in the electoral law.

The premier’s sources expected Wednesday’s cabinet session to be “intense” given the number of articles on its agenda, which include administrative, economic, and financial affairs.

Furthermore, they said that the latest batch of administrative appointments are being discussed in a calm atmosphere among the concerned sides.

The funding of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon will continue on being the subject of debate, with the sources expecting the matter to remain pending even after Miqati travels to New York later this month.
