Franjieh: Al-Rahi’s Statements Reflect Christians’ Concerns

Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh stated on Tuesday that Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi’s recent statements reflect the concerns of the Christian community given the developments in region.

He said in a statement: “He has based his positions on Christian teaches that have defined the Christians’ role in the region.”

“The patriarch’s fears are not based on conjectures, but facts, such as the developments in Iraq,” noted the MP.

“It is well-known that fundamentalist regimes place Christians before the choice of immigration or being at the mercy of Muslims and we oppose both,” he stressed.

“We would like to point out that those who criticized the patriarch’s positions are content with being governed by Muslims,” said Franjieh.

Al-Rahi had voiced concerns during his trip to France last week that the arrival of fundamentalist regimes in the region would jeopardize Christians in the area.

He had also expressed concern over Sunni and Shiite tensions that could negatively affect Christians.
