Customs Seize Million Captagon Pills Hidden in Furniture

Customs agents have managed to arrest the owner of a furniture factory and the members of a gang that was plotting to smuggle around a million Captagon pills to a Gulf country.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Lebanese Customs Administration said it had obtained information on Tuesday about “preparations to export quantities of narcotics to a country in the Arab Gulf after hiding them in pieces of furniture.”

“Following necessary contacts with the competent judicial authorities, a patrol from the Tripoli department and the Customs' anti-narcotics unit raided a furniture factory in the Jbeil region and seized over 950,000 pills of Captagon,” the statement added.

It said the drugs were “skilfully and professionally packed in a number of chairs.”

And after the factory owner was interrogated, “a patrol from the command of Tripoli's Customs dept. managed to arrest one of the gang's dangerous members following a chase,” the statement added.

It identified the detained man as Syrian national Sh. H.

On Tuesday, media reports had said that a large quantity of Captagon and drugs was seized at a wood factory in the Jbeil town of Hbaline.
