Man Says SSNP Chief's Bodyguards Assaulted him in Qoreitem

A citizen claimed he was assaulted on Tuesday by the bodyguards of Syrian Social National Party chief MP Assaad Hardan, reported the National News Agency.

It said that Toufiq Fahd Zeino Saqqal, 30, was beaten by the lawmaker's bodyguards in Beirut's Qoreitem area.

They claimed that Saqqal had intercepted Hardan's convoy.

Saqqal has since filed a complaint against the assailants at the Internal Security Forces station in Raouche.

The SSNP later issued a statement clarifying the incident, saying that the dispute erupted after a citizen attempted to photograph Hardan's convoy as it was passing in the Qoreitem area.

It said that the MP's bodyguards noticed that a driver in a CRV was following the convoy, which prompted them to intercept the driver and inquire why he was trying to photograph the motorcade.

His failure to answer their questions led to the dispute.

A number of security forces soon arrived at the scene.

The SSNP also condemned the “suspicious manner in which the media reported the development.”

“This issue is now in the hands of the security forces, which should carry out investigations with the concerned individual to determine why he was photographing the convoy,” it added.
