Report: Larijani Visit Will Pave Way for Mustaqbal-Hizbullah Dialogue

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani is expected to arrive in Lebanon at the beginning of next week in a what is seen as precursor to the expected dialogue between the Mustaqbal Movement and Hizbullah, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

Larijani's visit is expected to pave the way for the talks that media reports said will be held on December 29.

Political sources told An Nahar that the Iranian official will arrive in Beirut on Monday and that his talks will clarify Tehran's position on pending Lebanese issues, particularly Sunni-Shiite dialogue and the presidential elections.

Meanwhile, the first round of the Mustaqbal-Hizbullah talks are set to be held at Speaker Nabih Berri's Ain al-Tineh residence, reported An Nahar.

The movement will be represented by Mustaqbal chief Saad Hariri's advisor Nader Hariri, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq, and MP Samir al-Jisr.

Hizbullah's delegation will include party chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's advisor Hussein al-Khalil, State Minister for Parliamentary Affair Mohammed Fneish, and a third official, whose identity was not disclosed.

Berri and his aide Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil will attend the dialogue.

Sources from the Mustaqbal Movement did not confirm the date of the talks, saying: “It is no longer important seeing as the concerned officials have agreed to dialogue.”

They stressed however that it will be held before the new year.
