Reports: Gemayel to Riyadh on an Official Visit

Head of the Kataeb party Amin Gemayel is expected to pay Saudi Arabia a visit upon the invitation of deputy Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdul Aziz, media reports reported on Saturday.

Gemayel received a phone call from the Crown Prince who congratulated him on the holidays and invited him to visit the kingdom.

On his part, Gemeyal welcomed the invitation.

The exact date of the official invitation has not been set yet.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea made a similar visit to Riyadh on December 15 where he met with Prince Muqrin.

The two officials discussed the political developments in the region, including the need for the election of a new president in Lebanon.

During his meeting with Geagea, the Saudi Prince stressed that the kingdom will “always stand by Lebanon and that it will continue to back it in all steps that seek to bolster the stability, sovereignty, and security of its people.”

For his part, Gemayel voiced hopes during his phone call with Prince Muqrin that Lebanon becomes able to end the presidential vacuum. Prince Muqrin reiterated Saudi Arabia's stance to support Lebanon.

Lebanon has been without a head of sate since May when the tenure of Michel Suleiman ended. Conflict between the rival March 8 and March 14 alliances have thwarted all attempts to far to end that vacuum.
