Mustaqbal Slams Israel's Quneitra Strike: Political Powers Must Avoid Sliding towards Regional Dangers

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc strongly condemned on Tuesday the Israeli strike against the Syrian region of Quneitra, saying that “attacks against Arab land are unacceptable regardless of their causes.”

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “Political powers in Lebanon should prioritize protecting Lebanon and its people and avoid sliding towards regional dangers.”

“This will prevent Lebanon from falling victim to regional agendas and goals that don't serve the country,” it noted.

“Lebanon has and still is paying the price of reckless regional policies adopted by some sides,” it added.

“The situation in the country will not return to normal if these policies persist,” remarked the bloc.

It therefore demanded that Lebanon adhere to its policy of disassociation and refrain from getting involved in any action that may jeopardize the country's security.

“It seems that this policy has not registered with some forces in that Hizbullah is increasing its involvement in the war in Syria,” it stressed.

The bloc also strongly condemned the recent comments made by Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security at Iran's parliament, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who said that Hizbullah's response to Israel “will be very harsh.”

The Mustaqbal bloc asked: “Should the nature of the response to an Israeli strike on Arab land be determined by an Iranian official?”

“Given that Hizbullah is a Lebanese party that is represented in parliament and the government, it should not receive orders from regional powers,” it demanded.

The bloc stressed however that it will continue its dialogue with Hizbullah for the purpose of easing sectarian tensions in Lebanon and eliminating obstacles hindering the staging of the presidential elections.

Dialogue between Hizbullah and the Mustaqbal Movement kicked off in December. Three rounds of talks have been held so far.

Prominent Hizbullah operatives Mohammed Ahmed Issa and Jihad Imad Mughniyeh as well as top Iranian general Mohammad Ali Allahdadi were among the victims of the Israeli air raid on Syria's Quneitra region near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Sunday.
