Asir Supporter Arrested in Sidon, IS Slogans Found on his Mobile

Police arrested on Friday a supporter of fugitive Salafist cleric Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir in the southern coastal city of Sidon, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Security forces found on Mustafa K.'s mobile phone slogans and photos supporting the extremist Islamic State group, NNA said.

The suspect's brothers are allegedly in custody on the same charges of belonging to al-Asir's group that engaged in heavy clashes with the Lebanese army in Sidon in 2013.

Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5) reported that Mustafa K. was later released from custody.

Al-Asir and singer turned fugitive Islamist Fadel Shaker are reportedly hiding in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh that lies in Sidon.

Security sources told al-Joumhouria daily last month that the IS will soon appoint al-Asir as its emir in Lebanon.
