Security Forces Arrest Syrian for Taking Part in Ras Baalbek Clashes

Security forces in the eastern Bekaa region arrested on Wednesday a Syrian for his involvement in recent clashes with the army, reported the National News Agency.

It said that Hussein Ghirly was arrested at a hospital in the Bekaa.

He was smuggled there about two months ago from the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal after he had suffered from a wound to the head.

He confessed to the security forces that he had taken part in the clashes against the army in the Ras Baalbek region.

In January, the army fought fierce battles against extremist militants on Syria's border in which nine soldiers were killed and more than 20 wounded.

Dozens of gunmen were also killed or wounded in the clashes that erupted in the outskirts of Ras Baalbek.
