Kidnappers of Arsal Resident Ask for Ransom

The kidnappers of a Lebanese resident of the northeastern border town of Arsal have asked for a $200,000 ransom, his father claimed on Monday.

The state-run National News Agency quoted the father of Zaher Rayed as saying that he received a phone call from the abductors asking for the ransom.

Rayed had been missing since Saturday.

Abductions are common in Arsal. Militants from al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State group are hiding on the town's outskirts.

The IS abducted on Saturday night Syrian national Ahmed Ta'an Assi in Arsal.

Meanwhile, NNA said that the body of a Syrian boy, who went missing on Sunday, was found on the banks of the river in the town of al-Kuwaikhat in the northern Akkar district.

Police launched an investigation to know the cause of death of 14-year-old Walid Halloum, added the agency.

It was not clear if the teenager had been kidnapped and murdered.
