Army Intelligence Arrests Dangerous Fugitives on Terror Links

The army intelligence detained on Tuesday two dangerous suspects charged with belonging to a terrorist organization and assaulting the military.

The army command said in a communique that Omar Miqati, who is also known as Abi Huraira, and Bilal Miqati (the Lebanese Abou Omar and Abou Omar al-Trabulsi) have been arrested earlier in the day.

They are both charged with belonging to a terrorist group and attacking troops.

One of them is also involved in the slaughtering of a Lebanese soldier, who was abducted by jihadists in the northeastern border town of Arsal in August, the military said in its statement.

An investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent judicial authority.

Bilal Miqati is reportedly suspected of the beheading at least one of the Lebanese soldiers held captive on the outskirts of Arsal.

The jihadists held several soldiers and policemen hostage after withdrawing from the town. Four of them were executed.

In October, the army busted a terrorist cell led by Ahmed Salim Miqati during a raid in the town of Asoun in the northern district of Dinniyeh. The members of the network, including Miqati were arrested.

Ahmed Miqati had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and established cells linked to the group in the region.

He was planning to carry out a huge terrorist act along with his son Omar, who is fighting alongside ISIL in Arsal, and nephew Bilal.
