Fiorentina Sacks Coach Montella 'for the Good of the Club'
Fiorentina has sacked coach Vincenzo Montella "for the good of the club."
Montella, who led Fiorentina to fourth in the Serie A this season, angered club bosses after a perceived lack of commitment to the club.
The 40-year-old was keen to cancel a 5 million euro release clause on his contract, which had two years left to run, with Napoli and AC Milan reportedly interested.
In a statement, Fiorentina says it views Montella's recent actions undertaken "as a clear attempt to get out of a contract he signed less than two years ago because it includes a clause that he no longer holds to be in his interest."
The club adds it expected to see him "behave in a clearer, more respectful, and less ambiguous manner towards the club and the fans that have given him so much."
