MTC Touch Launches 3G Internet Services in Lebanon

MTC Touch mobile phone operator launched on Wednesday its 3G internet service during a conference sponsored by Telecommunications Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui and attended by MTC Touch General Manager Claude Bassil, and its Chief Commercial Officer Nadim Khater.

Bassil announced that 3G services will be available to all of MTC Touch’s 98,000 customers, adding that some 7,000 have signed up for the service in one day.

The coverage includes Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Zahleh, and parts of greater Beirut through 420 out of 850 stations.

The services will cover all Lebanese territory by early 2012, Bassil revealed.

He added that MTC Touch has equipped 50 of the locations with Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks whose speeds reach 173 megabytes per second and which are a precursor to the establishment of 4G services.

Bassil thanked the Telecommunications Ministry and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for their efforts in ensuring the establishment of 3G services.

For his part, Khater revealed five packages available to customers who carry prepaid or fixed mobile phone lines.

The first package provides 100 megabytes at the cost of $10, the second provides 500 megabytes for $19, the third provides one gigabyte for $32, the fourth provides three gigabytes for $79, and the fifth provides five gigabytes for $99.

He also unveiled the “Pay as You Go” service that grants customers one megabyte for $0.5.
