Morocco Breaks up 'IS-Linked Terrorist Cell'

Moroccan security forces have broken up a "terrorist cell" linked to the Islamic State (IS) group and arrested its three members, including a woman, the interior ministry said Thursday.

The cell, operating in the cities of Fez, Casablanca and Ouled Taima, followed "instructions from the terrorist group and was planning... attacks in the kingdom," a statement said.

This is the third time Morocco has announced the arrest of people affiliated with IS since the group carried out a bombing and shooting spree in Paris on November 13 that left 130 people dead.

Moroccan intelligence helped put French investigators on the trail of the Belgian jihadist suspected of orchestrating the attacks.

A Moroccan tip-off, along with other information, helped police track Abdelhamid Abaaoud -- a Belgian of Moroccan descent -- to an apartment block in a northern Paris suburb, where he was killed in a raid last week.

Belgium has asked Morocco to share any intelligence it has to help track a key suspect in connection with the Paris attacks.
