Youths Block Abboudieh Crossing in Protest against Decision to Stop Treating Injured Syrians

Youths in the town of al-Blaneh al-Haisa blocked the international road linking Lebanon to Syria at the Abboudieh border crossing in Akkar in protest to a Higher Relief Council decision to prevent Syrian wounded from receiving medical treatment in Lebanese hospitals, reported the National News Agency.

The protesters condemned the council decision, describing it as “inhumane.”

They threatened to escalate their action if the government does not retract its decision and bind the Council to cover the expenses of injured Syrians.

The road was reopened after a short period of time.

Media reports said that several Syrian seeking refuge in Lebanon have been handed over to the Lebanese army and returned to Syria where they fled a bloody regime crackdown against anti-regime demonstrations.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency reported that the number of refugees in Lebanon has reached 3,580 in September, most of whom entered Lebanon through illegal border crossings.

Prime Minister Najib Minister estimated the some 5,000 Syrian refugees have entered Lebanon.
