FTSE Slides on Italy Debt Fears
London equities plunged Thursday in early morning deals on deepening fears that debt-plagued Italy could fall victim to the eurozone debt crisis and threaten the entire euro project.
The FTSE 100 index sank 1.27 percent to 5,391.01 points in opening trade.
In the eurozone Frankfurt's DAX 30 dived 1.47 percent to 5,743.74 and the Paris CAC 40 shed 0.98 percent to 3,044.57 -- clawing back initial losses of 2.6 percent.
Milan's FTSE Mib lost 1.33 percent to 14,871 points at the open, before bouncing back into positive territory in volatile deals.
