'Orange is the New Black' Renewed for Three More Seasons

Netflix on Friday announced it had renewed the award-winning women's prison dramedy "Orange is the New Black" -- one of the streaming giant's tentpole series -- for three more seasons.

The fourth season of "Orange is the New Black" premieres June 17, and the new Netflix commitment will take the series into its seventh season.

The show has won four Emmy awards, including two for actress Uzo Aduba, who plays Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren. It took home the Screen Actors Guild award last weekend for best ensemble cast in a comedy series.

"Orange," along with political drama "House of Cards," have established Netflix as a powerhouse in the realm of original content.

"Three more years! Not a political mandate, but still plenty of time to do interesting things," series creator Jenji Kohan said in the statement.

Kohan will remain as executive producer and showrunner, a role that involves being the lead writer as well as steering the program's production, for the three new seasons.

Kohan was previously the creator, executive producer and showrunner of Showtime's "Weeds," which aired from 2005 to 2012.
