ISF Arrest Five-Member Islamic State Cell

The Internal Security Forces arrested during search raids in Beirut and the Bekaa valley, a five-member cell involved with the Islamic State terror group, the ISF said in a statement on Tuesday.

ISF has monitored movements of five Syrian suspects who operated between the capital Beirut and the Dora area, said the statement.

On July 17-18, the ISF raided areas in Beirut and the Bekaa valley and arrested all members of the cell.

The detainees were identified with their initials as A.Aa, S.A., M.A., Aa.A., and H.A.

During investigation, A.Aa admitted that he was the key network player.

He said he belonged to the IS in Syria and attended military courses in al-Tayybeh. He later moved to al-Mayadeen area to participate in the fighting alongside the IS ranks.

In 2016, A.Aa. said he moved to Lebanon where he was tasked with recruiting individuals who support the IS ideology.

The detainees acknowledged the charges against them before they were brought before the competent military authority, the statement said.
