Gemayel: Ruling Class Robbing Everything, Reminds Us of Syrian Era

Kataeb Party chief MP Sami Gemayel on Wednesday launched a fresh blistering attack on the government, accusing it of emulating the era of Syria's political hegemony over Lebanon.

“The ruling class is robbing everything in the country and its performance reminds us of the Syrian era,” Gemayel lamented during an interview on Lebanon's MTV.

“Ever since they handed over the country to Hizbullah, they have been spectacular in a negative way – from the (power) ships file to the biometric voting card to internet to taxes,” Gemayel said.

“The ruling class' performance has led us into relinquishing sovereignty for a distribution of shares, political profits and one scandal after another,” he decried.

Recalling Kataeb's decision not to join Saad Hariri's current government, Gemayel pointed out that “seventeen out of 30 ministers in the current government are convinced of Hizbullah's role in Lebanon.”

“The majority of the government endorses the approach of the Resistance. Due to this atmosphere, we decided not to take part in it,” Gemayel said, referring to Hizbullah's controversial role as an armed group inside and outside Lebanon.
