Palestinians in Refugee Camps Enraged by Trump Jerusalem Move

Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital has drawn sharp criticism around the world and in Lebanon, triggering series of denouncing statements and protests mainly in Palestinian refugee camps in the country.

People staged angry protests late on Wednesday in al-Beddawi Palestinian refugee camp in north Lebanon denouncing US President Donald Trump's move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the National News Agency reported on Thursday.

The crowd chanted slogans denouncing the decision and calling upon the “Palestinian people, Arabs and Muslims to counter the move with practical steps on the ground,” NNA added.

A similar protest took place in the northern refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared where Palestinian factions and the popular committees protested against the move.

Campaigners marched in the streets chanting slogans and running revolutionary songs. The cheers of the masses called for a public outcry to confront the “American Zionist plan” and the Israeli occupation.

Later on Thursday, NNA reported that residents in refugee camps in the southern city of Sidon announced a general strike.

“A general strike was declared on Thursday in Ain el-Hilweh and Mieh Mieh camps meeting the invitation of the Palestinian political leadership, factions and popular committees, in condemnation of Trump's decision to make the Palestinian city of Jerusalem the capital of Israel,” said NNA.
