3 Policemen Injured Near Sabra Camp over Illegal Construction

Three security officers were injured on Tuesday night when residents near the Palestinian refugee camp of Sabra in Beirut pelted them with stones while they were seeking to curb the construction of an illegal building.

The National News Agency said Wednesday that an Internal Security Forces patrol was seeking to end the violation with the help of the Army when scores of young men and women pelted them with stones.

Several of the protesters also opened fire on them, forcing the patrol to fire in the air to disperse the crowds, the agency said.

But three officers were injured in the incident and the patrol left the area without being able to end the construction of the illegal building, NNA added.

Also Tuesday, a gunfight erupted between the ISF and Qobbeh residents in the northern port city of Tripoli after a dispute over efforts to curb illegal construction.
