Aoun Vows to End Akkar's Impoverishment

President Michel Aoun promised Monday to “sponsor efforts to end Akkar's deprivation,” during a meeting with the northern region's MPs and municipal chiefs.

“The Akkar region is cherished by all Lebanese, because it is the reserve of the military institution and because its residents have offered a lot of sacrifices for the sake of Lebanon's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity,” Aoun said.

He added: “I will sponsor efforts to end Akkar's deprivation through addressing its developmental and social projects, the same as I will sponsor all Lebanese regions out of keenness on the balanced development that I had committed myself to achieve it in the oath of office.”

The delegation that met with the president was comprised of the MPs Asaad Dergham, Mustafa Suleiman, Wehbe Qatisha, Hadi Hobeish and Tarek al-Merehbi, in addition to heads of municipal unions.

The officials called for “repairing infrastructure and roads and improving health services in the region through developing the government-run hospital and a number of dispensaries in small towns in addition to constructing a military hospital.”

The delegation also called for “addressing the educational and high education needs, opening the Rene Mouawad Airport to civil aviation, providing better power supply, executing water projects, implementing the decrees related to the Akkar Governorate, introducing offices for the ministries in it, applying administrative decentralization, improving the agriculture sector, and hiring the region's sons in public administrations and all branches of the armed forces.”
