Berri Criticizes Miqati: There is No Such Thing as Premiership

Speaker Nabih Berri has criticized Premier Najib Miqati for warning that he would confront any attempt to target the authorities of the prime minister.

Former Minister Albert Mansour on Friday quoted Berri as saying that “constitutionally, there is no institution called the premiership.”

Miqati warned on Friday that any attempt to limit the authorities of the premiership directly or indirectly would be confronted.

“There will be no compromises,” he told the employees of the Grand Serail.

His remarks were seen as a retaliation to Berri’s threats that he would grill the cabinet if it failed to issue the decrees on oil exploration.

The government will be called into task “whether the involved person was my ally or my friend,” Berri was quoted as saying.

An Nahar daily said Saturday that the sources close to Berri and Miqati refused to comment on the alleged bickering. But the newspaper said that contacts were made between the aides of the two officials to clarify their stances.
